  17. "The White OO Nights" - a 2-day international conference focusing on
  18. object-oriented technology, WOON '96, is to be held at St. Petersburg,
  19. Russia, on June 20 and 21, 1996. Object technology experts from West
  20. and East gather together to share their ideas and experiences with each
  21. other at a very special time of year - the White Nights - no darkness
  22. at all - nearly 24 hours of daylight. During the following weekend
  23. there will be an optional sightseeing programme including visiting
  24. the Hermitage and Peterhof (If you stay over the weekend, the
  25. airline fares are rather low).

  37. experience with, the object oriented paradigm. A non-exhaustive list of

  43.         * OO user interfaces, persistence and databases
  44.         * Class management and evolution
  45.         * Empirical and field studies

  47.              industrial-quality reusable components
  48.         * Design and Implementation of OO languages.
  49.         * Software engineering aspects

  61. Authors should submit an electronic copy of the full paper, in
  62. English, to the program chair (woon@sigco.com) by no later than
  63. April 21st. Papers should be formatted in Postscript, RTF format
  64. or ASCII and sent compressed in uuencode format. They should not
  65. exceed 10 pages and should be prefaced with ASCII text containing
  66. the paper's title, authors' names, contact name, email address,
  67. postal address, phone number, and a 100-word abstract.

  69. Authors will get a confirmation of receipt within 5 days.
  70. Proposals for tutorials, panels and workshops are also solicited.

  74. Russia has been (and still is) a major force in most topics - including
  75. computer science.  A surprising number of software development efforts
  76. within the former Soviet Union are using object-oriented programming
  77. and object-oriented design to build production software systems. Major
  78. universities teach object oriented methods and there is some research in 
  79. this
  80. area. Besides this there is much cooperation between Western and Russian
  81. companies and research institutes.

  83. It seems to be the right time for the first international conference in
  84. Russia about object oriented technology. This conference should:
  85.  
  86. - help East and West to learn from one another
  87. - help to build new connections
  88. - provide the opportunity to present and to learn about
  89.   o the actual state of research in OO technology
  90.   o OO based developments
  91.   o practical experiences with OO
  92.

  94. The conference will be held at the St. Petersburg electrotechnical
  95. university. Accommodations will be provided on-site. Additional
  96. accomodations will be available in St. Petersburg.  Airport limousine
  97. service between St. Petersburg Airport and the conference site will be 
  98. provided.
  99. The conference organizers will help you in gathering the necessary visas.

  132. many people visit St. Petersburg at this time. So we suggest you
  133. make room reservations as soon as possible. As there are many other hotels
  134. in the town (no upper price limit ;-) accommodation should be no problem -
  135. just ask the conference organizers.
